Expeditions & voyaging

From 2006 to 2009 I sailed across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans solo in a 26ft boat. This adventure was the subject of a feature length film called Between Home, made by German/Australian filmmaker Jack Rath - this adventure is also the subject of my book The Years Thunder By.

Other voyages & deliveries include a second doublehanded trans-Pacific aboard my second sailing boat Harmony, Westsail 32 delivery from from Palau to Darwin, sailing the eastern seaboard with my family aboard our 45ft pilothouse cutter Euphoria in 2021 and a singlehanded open boat voyage across Bass Strait aboard Huia, a 1936 gaff rigged open cockpit Couta boat. In total I’ve sailed over 35,000 nautical miles, mostly alone or shorthanded.

In 2019/2020 I attempted to complete my circumnavigation started in 2006, by driving an 30 year old ex-military Land Rover from Australia back to Europe, by way of Africa. I made it as far as South Africa before being thwarted by the pandemic. I shipped my Land Rover home in early 2021.

Kohutt - design & craftsmanship for the indoors and the outdoors

My interest in design & manufacturing is expressed through the range of objects I produce - all made via my Kohutt brand, utilising a range of both traditional & high tech materials and techniques.

Micro hoteling & spaces

While traveling and working, my house The Tin Lantern is open to guests to experience the rugged and beautiful landscape of the Tasman Peninsula in Tasmania.

I have a keen interest in space conversion & creation through boatshed’s, shipping containers and warehouses.
